United States Amateur Combat Association is starting an MMA scholarship fund. The goal of this scholarship will be to provide gym tuition for at risk children. Applications will be made available in the near future but in the meantime please feel free to email me at mickm@maroonweekly.com. Our aim is to provide at least one scholarship from each event to a gym in that particular city. Examples of an at-risk child could be the following
- A child with poor to failing grades; a child from a single parent home; a child who is not yet in trouble but is “at-risk” of going down the wrong road. There are many factors that put children “at-risk”.

Classified by school as emotionally disturbed
Two year lag in achievement
School expulsion
Learning disability
School suspension
Single parent home
Drug use by student
Elementary school failure
Drug use by family member
Evidence of family conflict
Lack of prosocial (sports or Low IQ or other cognitive impairment
Other outside)activities
Abuse or neglect of any kind
Poor communication between
Arrest
Parents and school
Danger of removal from home by State Dept of child care
Abuse or neglect of a sibling
Either parent charged with failure to protect
Anti-social behavior at or prior to age 10
(major mental disorder such as Truancy
ADD, ADHD, Obsessive/Domestic Violence
Compulsive Disorder, etc.
Evidence of poor family coping skills
Low emotional attachment or Mentally or physically handicapped
or estrangement between family
Parental lack of negative attitude toward crime or criminal behavior
Evidence of a history of “problem behaviors” as defined by family.
Low family income
